The Sobey School of Business at St. Mary's University is the largest business school in Atlantic Canada, and the only comprehensive business school in the region. Sobey's offers Ph.D., MBA, and EMBA programs, in addition to a large undergraduate B.Comm. program.   Specialized programs such as MBA-CMA, Masters in Finance and Masters in Management (Cooperatives and Credit Unions) are offered.  All programs are accredited by AACSB International.
In all, some 3,000 full- and part-time students attend the School. While many students are from the Atlantic region, the Sobey School draws students from Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East, giving the campus a strong international flavour.

Programs Offered:


The Sobey BComm program provides students with a strong foundation in general business knowledge and skills, a wide range of specialization options, and extensive opportunities for "hands on" experience and interaction with the local business community. The program includes a custom design feature, a co-operative education option, and opportunities for international study.


The Sobey School of Business brings together top-notch teaching, a diverse student body and first-class facilities in a challenging MBA Program. The Sobey School of Business provides a solid academic foundation, applied learning opportunities, and an array of diverse electives. Students gain a deeper appreciation of the business context through a variety of student-to-business events.   MBA students have on average four years of experience.
The MBA Program develops leaderships skills through experiential learning opportunities.  Integrative thinking, as opposed to learning in functional silos, is emphasized.  Students develop strong communication and team skills.  Ethical and global issues are addressed throughout the core curriculum.  The program prepares students for the knowledge-based global economy.

Master of Finance:

Developed and delivered in Halifax exclusively for students from the People's Republic of China, the Sobey Master of Finance program is a one of kind initiative at Saint Mary's. The MFIN effectively prepares graduates for professional careers in financial management, portfolio management and risk management, and provides a solid foundation for doctoral study.


The Sobey EMBA is a specially designed two-year program for the seasoned business person who is prepared for the challenge of maintaining a full-time position while attending classes every two weeks, from August to April each year. The program's features a hands-on approach, personal attention, networking opportunities, and focus on preparing graduates for new, exciting challenges.

Master of Management (Co-operatives and Credit Unions):

The Master of Management - Co-operatives and Credit Unions is an innovative web-based program that brings together, in cyber space, co-op and credit union professionals from around the world to learn how to combine the principles of co-operation with active, aggressive management practices


The Ph.D. Program at the Sobey School of Business brings together a core team of internationally recognized faculty to deliver a flexible, but rigorous doctoral program geared specifically to working professionals. Only in its fifth year of operation, the Sobey Ph.D. program has 24 students, and has been described by AACSB International as innovative and exciting.
