SFU was founded on a spirit of innovation, flexibility and relevance. SFU Business continues to reflect that spirit through the continuing evolution of programs designed to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving business environment.
Graduate programs at SFU Business are unique. Most business schools offer only one MBA program with multiple specialist streams following the basic coursework. We instead provide individual programs tailored for separate markets, with each program offered on a cohort model. This enables us to tailor every course to the specific population served, resulting in a more satisfying student experience delivered in smaller class sizes to cohesive groups.
The SFU Business Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offers one of Canada's best co-operative education experiences. Almost 50 percent of the school's 1400 undergraduate students take advantage of this opportunity to mix work and education. They obtain valuable job experience related to their business concentration and often, an entree to a job after graduation.
Concentrations available include
Accounting; Finance; Human Resource Management; International Business; Management Information Systems; Management Science; Marketing.
Two exciting concentrations have been added to the BBA program available at the new SFU Surrey campus: Entrepreneurship; and Management and Technology.
The MBA program is designed for students with undergraduate degrees in areas other than Business and five years or less of professional work experience. The two-year curriculum is condensed into 12 months of intensive course work, designed to provide students with a broad portfolio of skills as they start their careers. A paid internship at the end of the program creates a chance to acquire essential work experience and facilitates a smooth transition into the workplace.
An optional international field study trip explores cultural differences and challenges of operating on a global scale.
* Global Asset and Wealth Management
* Management of Technology
* Management of Biotechnology
The EMBA is based on a cohort model, so students spend the entire 19-month program with classmates whose business, cultural, and life experiences add immeasurably to each other's education. Students continue to work full-time while attending classes every other Friday and Saturday. To encourage group collaboration on assignments and projects, students are provided accommodations at a nearby downtown hotel on the Friday nights they have classes.
There is also an opportunity for students to add an international field trip component to their studies. This optional tour examines the significant cultural, political, legal and economic differences between Canadian firms and their counterparts around the world.
Other Graduate Programs:
- Master of Financial Risk Management: This program will appeal to those who are numerically astute and enjoy the stimulating, analytical environment of finance.
- Graduate Diploma in Business Administration: An online graduate business program for those who have undergraduate degrees in non-business disciplines.
A PhD program for the 21st century, we carefully select a small cohort of students and match them early with faculty supervisors. The SFU Business PhD program offers choice in specialization and we work with students to develop a coursework plan customized to the students' research interest. Students are supported financially and professionally throughout their program.
