Unique Factors
The blended learning model unique to Royal Roads University caters to working professionals by providing the richness of the classroom experience with the convenience of distance learning. Over the duration of the two-year MBA program, students spend three, three-week residency periods on the beautiful historic RRU campus, a former Edwardian estate overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The rest of the curriculum is completed through interactive online courses.
The emphasis at RRU is applied professional programming. Faculty combine academic and business experience in their curriculum. Most students come with more than seven years experience in the workforce. Building on this, courses promote interaction and team collaboration. The capstone project is an Organizational Consulting Project, in which students complete a real project for an actual client of their choice providing a minimum of 360 hours of consulting time with an academic advisor/practitioner overseeing the entire project.
Applicants to this program are assessed on education and work experience. While applicants have often completed an undergraduate degree in a business setting, there is an opportunity for those without a previous formal education to have their application assessed. Prior Learning Assessment, or flexible admission options are available for those who have extensive and broad experience in the workplace – the ‘real-world’ setting that guides our program.
